Pumpkin carving this weekend? 🎃

Quick tip before the tealights come out. If wax drips onto your carpet, don't wipe it. Soft wax only smears and sinks in deeper.

Let it harden, scrape off what you can with a blunt knife or old bank card, and if any is left, a low heat iron (no steam) over a white paper towel will often lift it. Check your carpet's care instructions first, as some fibres don't like heat.

Throwback to a nursery job in Rochester, Kent 🧸

Cool concrete effect Polyflor Silentflor vinyl went down in the main nursery areas, corridors, kitchens and bathrooms, with Array carpet tiles in the offices.

Silentflor is an acoustic vinyl, designed to help reduce the sound of footsteps, which is no bad thing in a building full of busy little feet.

Straight planks or herringbone? We know which one has our vote 😏

The zigzag pattern adds movement and interest underfoot, and it suits classic and modern homes alike. It takes more care to fit than straight planks, which is part of why it looks so good when it's done right.

Steam mop owners, look away now 😬

Most flooring manufacturers advise against steam mops on laminate and vinyl, because heat and moisture can work their way into the seams over time. Some say using one can void your warranty.

A sweep or hoover first, then a damp mop, is the safer bet. If you're unsure, your floor's care instructions will tell you what it can take.

Barefoot or socks on a brand new carpet? Be honest 😄

Recent project: a soft grey carpet fitted in this bedroom, finished neatly right up to the skirting boards. A fresh carpet really does change how a room feels.

Be honest, who's already in slippers? 🧦

If your feet are cold before the heating's even on, the floor could be part of the problem. Carpet with a decent underlay is hard to beat for warmth underfoot, and underlay helps block draughts coming up through floorboards.

Prefer hard flooring? A good rug makes a real difference.

One thing to check first: if you have underfloor heating, the rules are different, so ask before putting anything thick on top.

We don't just do floors, we do vans too.

This one was for Charlie at BrightPath Cleaning Services , who's constantly loading and unloading heavy cleaning equipment. His van floor was taking a beating, so we fitted a commercial grade vinyl designed to handle that level of daily wear and tear.

Not the usual flooring job, but a genuinely useful one for anyone running equipment out of a van day to day.
