11 years ago today, it all started with one little shop… 💕

I can hardly believe that 11 years have passed since I first opened up this little shop in Market Square, my very first shop in Petworth, with a seven-month-old baby in tow, a head full of ideas and absolutely no idea quite where the journey would take me!

Back then, it was Dales Country Interiors. A little shop that gave me the opportunity to turn my love of interiors, creativity and all things handmade into a business. Fast forward 11 years and goodness, how things have changed!

That little shop evolved into Maggie & Belle and along the way came Petworth Pop Up Shop & Boutique which has grown from monthly makers markets into a thriving shop supporting independent British businesses, followed by taking on Oakapple Trading a beautiful Petworth shop with its own long-standing history. And not forgetting the most recent addition of opening up my very own bespoke lampshade studio in Oakapple!

What started as one little shop has somehow grown into three businesses, all here in the town I grew up in, and all connected by my love of beautiful things, independent retail and supporting other small businesses.

It certainly hasn’t all been plain sailing. There have been plenty of challenges, some rather enormous learning curves, a lot of very long days and more juggling than I ever imagined possible! But there have also been so many wonderful moments, opportunities and people along the way.

I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve built over these 11 years, and even more grateful for the amazing team who help me keep everything running, the wonderful customers who have supported me (some right from those very first days!) and everyone who has been part of the journey.

I don’t think the version of me who opened that first little shop 11 years ago could ever have imagined where it would all lead.

Here’s to 11 years of shopkeeping, taking chances, following ideas and seeing where they lead. And perhaps a few more adventures still to come… 🥂

WE’RE FINALISTS! 🤩

I’m not very good at promoting myself, but I’m absolutely delighted to share that Maggie & Belle is a Finalist for Small Independent Business of the Year in Chichester & District Business Awards.

When I first opened this little shop back in 2015 (11 years ago this month!) with a seven month old Belle on tow, I could never have imagined where the journey would take me. These are just a small selection of some of my favourite memories from the shop 🩷

Over the 11 years there have been plenty of changes, challenges, lots of hard work and so many wonderful moments along the way. Through it all, my love for independent retail and creating a shop that people genuinely enjoy visiting has never changed. I’m incredibly proud of what Maggie & Belle has become, and I certainly couldn’t do it without my fabulous team.

A huge thank you to all our lovely customers, whether you’ve been shopping with us since those early days or have recently discovered us. Your support really means the world.

Just being recognised alongside other brilliant businesses is such a lovely achievement, and I’m going to enjoy this little moment of celebration!

Here’s to independent shops, our wonderful high street and all the small businesses giving it their all! 🥂

Hello weekend!

I’m having a bonus day in the shop as the gorgeous Fay from Fay Williams is having a well deserved weekend off. (I’m sure she’s picked the busiest weekend to have off based on how today has been! 😂)

There have been lots of lovely deliveries over the last week with some gorgeous new stock - new ceramics, a top up of the porcelain range and some fabulous new trinket dishes and accessories. BUT, the big news is that Sophie Allport hob covers are now back in stock, so many of you have asked about them so back they came! We had a lovely top up of the tea towels, oven gloves and napkins too!

The wonderful Charlie has been busy with the paint brushes and there are some fabulous painted chests of drawers available in the shop too.

Right, back to work for me!

💕 Pretty Pinks!

It is new window display time and the blue and white has been replaced with pretty pinks!

This lovely chest of drawers has just been finished by the gorgeous Charlie and deserved to be pride of place in the window! Painted in Autentico Paint Rose and then slightly distressed before being sealed with a Matt finish varnish.

I don’t expect this one to stick around for long! 💖
