Looking at the finished home, some of the design decisions may seem straightforward.

But each one was made for a reason.

Why the dining area was planned the way it was.

Why certain storage was placed where it was.

Why the kitchen was designed around the surrounding spaces.

Why some areas were kept open while others were given more built-in storage.

These decisions only make sense when you understand what the homeowners needed from each part of their home.

That’s why we’ve shared this Yishun Street 51 project across multiple posts — so you can see the thinking behind each individual area, rather than just looking at the finished home as a whole.

We made the shower smaller. And it cost the homeowner more.

Sounds like a strange decision for a renovation.

But there was a reason.

For the master bathroom, we constructed a dedicated shower wall and built shampoo niches into it.

This gives the homeowner a proper place to house shampoo, body wash and other shower essentials, instead of having bottles sitting on the floor or adding external racks later.

But there is a trade-off.

Constructing that wall costs more.

And because the new wall has its own thickness, it also takes away some usable space from the shower area.

So why do it?

Because sometimes the better solution isn’t the one that gives you the most space.

It’s the one that makes the space work better every day.

There was another space-planning challenge at the vanity.

Because the toilet bowl partially blocks one section of the vanity, we couldn’t simply use a conventional cabinet door there.

Instead, we designed that section of the carpentry as an open recessed niche, giving the homeowner accessible storage without a door interfering with the toilet.

Two small decisions, but both came from the same approach:

Look at the actual space.
Understand the limitations.
Then design around them.

The common bathroom follows the same warm, creamy palette, keeping both bathrooms visually consistent with the overall home while working within its own layout.

These details aren’t particularly dramatic.

But they are the decisions that determine whether a renovation merely looks good or actually works well.

Not every spare bedroom has to remain a bedroom. Sometimes, it can become your own personal dressing room.

Every homeowner has different lifestyles and daily routines.

For this couple, the wife starts her day much earlier than her husband. Instead of getting ready in the Master Bedroom and unintentionally disturbing his sleep every morning, we proposed transforming one of the common bedrooms into a dedicated dressing space.

Rather than filling the room with bulky furniture, we designed a compact built-in wardrobe alongside a customised floating dresser, creating a clean and seamless look while keeping the space feeling bright and spacious.

The full-height mirror, warm integrated lighting and generous countertop provide a comfortable environment for her daily makeup routine, allowing every morning to begin in a calm and organised space.

Beside the dresser, the compact wardrobe is thoughtfully planned to accommodate her work uniform, jackets and daily essentials. Everything she needs before leaving the house is neatly organised and always within easy reach.

The result is a room that serves more than one purpose. It remains a comfortable guest room when needed, while functioning as a practical dressing room that supports the homeowners’ everyday lifestyle.

Sometimes, the best design isn’t about adding more features.

It’s about understanding how a family lives and creating spaces that quietly make everyday routines smoother.

That’s the difference thoughtful planning can make.

“Just because a feature is popular doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for every home.”

One feature that’s become increasingly popular in recent years is the bedside niche.

It’s practical for placing your phone, charging handphones, place your reading glasses or even a thermal flask before going to bed. Naturally, many homeowners assume it’s a feature they should include.

But for this master bedroom, we saw an opportunity to create something even better.

As the room is generously sized, we were able to design a long, full-height wardrobe that provides ample storage for the homeowners. With storage already well taken care of, there was no need to introduce another feature simply because it was trending.

Instead of incorporating a bedside niche, we transformed the bedside into a full-height architectural feature that extends seamlessly from the floor to the ceiling.

The continuous wood grain, warm concealed lighting and suspended pendant light come together as one complete composition, creating a cleaner and more refined look. The uninterrupted vertical lines naturally draw your eyes upwards, giving the bedroom a stronger sense of height and elegance.

More importantly, this full-height feature creates a natural transition between the upholstered headboard and the long stretch of wardrobes. Rather than allowing the wardrobes to dominate the room, every element works together in harmony, creating a space that feels balanced, timeless and intentional.

This is what thoughtful interior design is about.

It’s not about squeezing in every feature you’ve seen on social media.

It’s about understanding the space, listening to the homeowners, and making design decisions that will continue to make sense long after the renovation is completed.

Because trends come and go.

But good design stands the test of time.

One wrong layout decision can make your kitchen feel cramped for the next 15 years.

For this home, we could have easily positioned the dining table beside the dry pantry.

On paper, it would’ve worked.

But with the half-height shoe cabinet located at the entrance, placing the dining table there would’ve made the entire space feel cramped. The moment you stepped into the home, the entrance, dining area and kitchen would all compete for space, making the layout feel cluttered and visually heavy.

Instead of trying to maximise every square metre, we focused on maximising the feeling of space.

By relocating the dining area, the kitchen was given room to breathe. The circulation became much more comfortable, while the dining area naturally transformed into a feature space of its own. To complete the look, we designed a custom-built settee that not only provides a cosy spot for everyday meals, but also creates a warm, Instagram-worthy corner for the homeowners to enjoy with family and friends.

The homeowners also wanted a dedicated dry pantry to support their daily routine. Rather than having their coffee machine, small appliances and everyday essentials occupying the main kitchen countertop, we designed a dedicated pantry station beside the refrigerator. Everything they need for their morning coffee or a quick bite is kept neatly within one area, allowing the main cooking space to remain clean, organised and functional.

Another subtle yet impactful transformation was replacing the original bi-fold door and louvre window with reeded glass. Besides giving the home a more refined aesthetic, it allows natural light to flow much deeper into the space while still maintaining privacy between the kitchen and service yard.

If you look closely, you’ll notice another thoughtful detail.

The passageway leading to the bedrooms has been concealed behind a flush door, allowing the wall to remain visually seamless. Instead of another doorway interrupting the design, the entire space flows continuously from the living area towards the kitchen, creating a cleaner and more sophisticated look.

Good design isn’t about fitting in everything you can.

It’s about knowing what to leave out, so everything else feels right.

Two families can buy the exact same floor plan.

But no two families live exactly the same way.

That’s why understanding our homeowners is always the first step in our design process.

Every homeowner comes to us with a style they love. Scandinavian. Japandi. Modern Luxury.

That’s always where the conversation begins.

But it’s never where the design ends.

Before we sketch a single line, we take the time to understand how our homeowners live. Their routines, priorities, habits, and what they need their home to do for them.

Only then do we begin designing.

For this family, the objective wasn’t simply to create a beautiful living room. It was to create a space that feels effortless to live in, where every detail has a purpose and every element works together as one cohesive composition.

Display was equally important to the homeowners, which is why we introduced an aluminium-framed glass display cabinet. The slim aluminium profile keeps the design light and refined, while the glass doors allow their favourite pieces to be showcased beautifully without being exposed to dust.

Rather than limiting the TV console to just the television area, we intentionally extended it across the entire stretch. Besides providing generous concealed storage for everyday essentials, the continuous line visually ties the entire composition together, creating a cleaner and more balanced living space.

Instead of extending the TV backdrop all the way to the ceiling, we purposely stopped it short. This creates visual breathing space while allowing concealed LED lighting to softly wash the wall, adding depth and warmth without making the carpentry feel visually heavy.

Keeping the living room clutter-free was another priority. A full-height concealed storage cabinet was incorporated beside the TV area, providing additional storage for household items while maintaining the clean, uninterrupted lines of the overall design.

The altar was thoughtfully integrated alongside the concealed storage and fitted with pocket doors, allowing it to remain open during prayers and be neatly concealed afterwards. This gives the homeowners the flexibility of having a dedicated worship space without compromising the overall harmony of the living room.

Towards the entrance, we incorporated a built-in designer settee, providing a comfortable place to put on or remove shoes. The bomb shelter was also boxed up as part of the overall design, allowing it to blend naturally into the continuous cabinetry instead of becoming a visual interruption.

Every design decision begins long before the first cabinet is built or the first laminate is selected.

It begins with understanding how our homeowners live.

Because we don’t just design around spaces.

We design around the people who call them home.

For this project, the homeowner shared one request with us.

She wanted a dedicated corner in her home where she could always take beautiful photos and share them on social media—a space that would naturally become the backdrop for family moments and special occasions.

That request became the inspiration behind this dining area.

Instead of designing a conventional dining bench, we proposed a custom curved settee that extends upwards at one end. The sculptural curve immediately gives the space its own identity, creating a backdrop that’s both elegant and memorable.

But the curve wasn’t designed purely for aesthetics.

Its contoured form also provides a comfortable place to lean back, read a book, enjoy a cup of coffee, or simply unwind after a long day. We wanted this corner to be a place the homeowner would naturally spend time in, rather than one that’s only admired from afar.

To complete the concept, we designed a feature wall centred around an illuminated heart. Beyond creating a warm focal point, we intentionally designed a generous feature wall that allows the homeowner to style the space differently throughout the year. Whether it’s Christmas, Chinese New Year, birthdays or other festive celebrations, the surrounding area can be decorated to create a fresh backdrop for every occasion, making each moment even more memorable.

For us, good design isn’t just about creating something beautiful.

It’s about listening to how our homeowners want to live, then transforming those ideas into spaces they’ll continue enjoying long after the renovation is completed.

For this project, the homeowners envisioned a home that felt warm, timeless and welcoming. Rather than the conventional Scandinavian palette that leans heavily towards white, they were drawn towards a Creamy Scandinavian concept with a stronger emphasis on soft cream tones—creating a brighter yet cosier atmosphere.

As with every project, the design process started with understanding not just how the home should look, but how the homeowners wanted to live.

Throughout the discussions, the couple shared their lifestyle, daily routines and aspirations for their new home. Every design decision was then carefully considered to ensure the home would not only be aesthetically pleasing, but also practical, comfortable and timeless.

As the design journey unfolded, several unique ideas began to take shape—each carefully crafted to solve a need while adding character to the home.

Some became signature design features.

Others are subtle details that many people may not notice at first glance, but together they define the overall experience of living in this home.
