Sometimes better design means questioning what’s already there.🧐

This kitchen had plenty of natural light, but the existing windows limited the layout, storage, and how this busy family could actually use the space.

We decided to close two windows, which let us expand the kitchen, add much-needed cabinetry and pantry storage, create a beverage station, and provide more seating for the family to gather.

It was a big decision—but one that completely changed how the kitchen functioned.
Good design isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about knowing what to take away.

A kitchen refresh with a little drama. ✨
We improved functionality first by redesigning the kitchen cabinets, then made the island a focal point, and preserved the rich, moody atmosphere my client loved.

My favorite detail? Extending the handcrafted onyx tile **beyond the backsplash and up the walls**. Tile doesn’t have to stop under the cabinets—used this way, it becomes an architectural finish that adds texture, depth, and character to the entire room.

It's a fresh new kitchen that still feels connected to the home—and the family who lives in it.

A LOOK BACK | Designed in 2019 🧡🍁🧡

Seven years later, and I’d still make the bold color choice.

My clients came into this project knowing they loved Benjamin Moore’s Dancing Salsa and wanted it in their home. Instead of using it as just an accent, we let that color become the starting point for the entire design.

Its warmth moves through the kitchen cabinetry and connects with the tile, natural woods, brick, artwork, and other details throughout the home—from the front door to the back.

And looking at it today, that’s what I appreciate most. The home still feels personal because we weren’t designing around a trend. We were designing around something the clients genuinely loved.

That’s the thing about color—when it’s intentional and personal, it has staying power.

Would you still choose a bold cabinet color like this today?

Good Design Has Staying Power

This guest bathroom, renovated in 2018, still looks great today. It is in a historic home in San Antonio’s Monte Vista neighborhood. I wanted to refresh the space without losing the home's character.

We used classic white subway tile and black-and-white patterned floors for the base. Traditional details helped, too. We added a beautiful red Chinoiserie-inspired fabric for a splash of color and personality.

With traditional patterns and classic details coming back, this room shows that **good design lasts.**

Trends may change, but respecting the architecture, choosing timeless materials, and adding a touch of personality never goes out of style.

Why I’ll Always Make Room for Vintage
I’ve always believed the most interesting homes aren’t filled with things that were all bought at once.

Vintage and antique pieces bring something new furnishings simply can’t—**history, character, and soul.** ❤

It doesn’t have to be a valuable antique, either. An old ironstone pitcher, a piece of art, vintage hardware or something completely unexpected can be the detail that makes a room feel collected rather than decorated.

I love mixing old with new and giving pieces from the past a new place to live.

It's All in the Details 🧐⭐
The finishing touches are what elevate a room from merely completed to truly polished. Elements like styling, artwork, plants, and the careful placement of those final pieces all contribute to how I bring a design together.

Trust Your Design Instincts ✨

Such a fun moment at Dallas Market meeting the incredibly talented Charlotte Moss during her book signing at Coco & Dash.

The most interesting spaces aren’t created by following every rule—they come from trusting your instincts. Mix the pattern. Add the unexpected color. Keep the antique that doesn’t perfectly “match.”

It’s those unexpected choices that give a home character, personality, and soul. 💕 Dallas Market | Coco & Dash | Charlotte Moss

Yes, You Can Mix Metals
Yes—you can mix metals. In fact, I prefer it.
Repeating a finish a few times gives it intention, while introducing another metal keeps the room from feeling overly coordinated. The trick is to create balance, not match everything.

Color Doesn't Have to Be Loud
Using color doesn't mean every element in the room needs to compete for attention.

I like to layer color in different values and textures, then give the eye plenty of quieter places to rest. That's what keeps a colorful room feeling sophisticated and livable. 🥰
