The heart of the home should be just as functional as it is beautiful.

For our La Costa project in San Clemente, we envisioned a kitchen that feels warm, modern, and quietly refined, while supporting a family that loves to cook, gather, and entertain.

The material palette brings together concrete-like surfaces, richly textured wood cabinetry, natural stone, and subtle details that create depth without overwhelming the space.

We approached the design with an almost invisible kitchen concept, allowing appliances, storage, and everyday functionality to integrate seamlessly into the architecture.

Every decision, from the cabinetry proportions to the material transitions and generous island, was considered around how this family actually lives.

A kitchen designed to work beautifully behind the scenes, while remaining the heart of it all.

Three distinctly different homes. One design philosophy.

From a Reimagined Cape Cod aesthetic with timeless architectural details and warm, layered materials, to an Industrial Modern interior defined by rich textures and dramatic contrast, to a Coastal Contemporary home that embraces natural light, organic materials, and a relaxed sense of refinement.

While each home has its own distinct aesthetic, the philosophy behind our work remains the same.

We believe thoughtful design begins with understanding the people who live in a home.

Our approach considers how our clients live, the architecture of their home, and the relationship between materials, proportions, and details. Every decision is made with intention, creating spaces that feel cohesive, personal, and thoughtfully considered.

We don’t approach every project with a signature style. Instead, we develop a design language that reflects each client’s individual perspective while maintaining the same level of care, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.

Three different aesthetics, each thoughtfully designed around the people who call them home.

JR, Joseph, your interior designer. I’ll answer to all three.

If you’re thinking about building, renovating, or reimagining your home, let’s talk.

The best time to bring a designer into the conversation is earlier than you might think.

Every home starts with a vision, but bringing that vision to life begins with understanding the space.

We’re taking you inside our La Costa project in San Clemente for an early look at what we have planned.

Starting at the entry and moving into the kitchen, I’m walking through some of the spaces we’re considering and how each decision will help create a more cohesive, intentional home.

At this stage, it’s about looking beyond what’s currently there and thinking through the architecture, proportions, flow, and details that will ultimately shape how the home looks and feels.

Looking forward to sharing more of this process as it unfolds.

Small and mighty or large and in charge, a shower niche doesn’t have to be an afterthought.

Sometimes we want it to nearly disappear into the wall, using the same material so it feels seamless.

Other times, it becomes part of the design, turning something purely functional into a defining detail.

The right approach depends on the shower, the materials, what needs to be stored, and how we want the overall space to feel and function.

And while some niches may look simple when it’s finished, there’s quite a bit happening behind the scenes. Placement, scale, tile layout, waterproofing, stone thicknesses, grout lines, and how each material transitions all need to be considered together.

Ten showers, ten different approaches. Which direction would you choose: simple and seamless or more of a focal point?

You don’t need to have your remodel figured out before calling a designer. But a little clarity goes a long way.

Before reaching out, spend some time thinking about what isn’t working in your home, what you want to preserve, what you’d like to change, and what you’re comfortable investing in the project.

You don’t need exact answers. You don’t need to select materials, solve the floor plan, or determine the scope on your own. That’s where we come in.

What’s helpful is understanding your priorities. How do you want to live differently in the home? What would make the biggest impact on your day-to-day experience? What matters enough to invest in?

Bring us those thoughts, questions, and even the things you’re unsure about.

From there, we can help turn them into a thoughtful design direction, establish the right scope, and guide the decisions that follow.

Considering a remodel in Orange County or Southern California? Start with this list, then let’s talk.

It’s been a while since I’ve properly introduced myself, so hi, I’m JR.

I’m the founder and principal designer behind Joseph Interiors, and I’m also the person who will probably notice the ¼-inch detail no one else is looking at.

I love natural materials and beautifully finished spaces, but what really keeps me interested in this work is figuring out how everything comes together. I want to know how it’s built, where two materials meet, why something is proportioned a certain way, and whether the smallest details have actually been thought through.

I’m naturally very detail-oriented, but I’m equally interested in the people I’m designing for. I ask a lot of questions. I want to know how you make coffee in the morning, where everyone ends up at the end of the day, what you love about your current home, and what has been driving you crazy for years.

I don’t believe every client should end up with the same version of my aesthetic. My job is to understand your taste, your home, and the way you live, then bring all of it together in a way that feels considered and completely personal to you.

I love the creative side of design, but I also genuinely enjoy the technical side: plans, cabinetry drawings, construction details, site meetings, material transitions, and solving the little things that make the finished home feel right.

And while I take the work seriously, I want the experience to feel personal. You’re trusting me with your home, your investment, and a lot of decisions. That relationship matters to me.

So, whether you’re new here or you’ve been following for years, hi. I’m JR. It’s nice to properly meet you.

From material palette to finished kitchen.

Stone, wood, metal, color, and texture are considered together.

As the design moves from concept through construction, that material language carries through every layer of the space.

The result is a kitchen that feels cohesive, considered, and personal.
