A truly exceptional pair of French Empire, Louis XVI-style side chairs, distinguished by their sculptural carving, unusual details, and beautifully aged hand finish.

What initially caught my attention was the extraordinary Aztec-inspired upholstery. My instinct would normally be to reupholster a pair like this—perhaps in a sumptuous black lambskin—but the more I look at this fabric, the more I appreciate its unexpected character. There is something wonderfully sophisticated about the contrast between the exotic textile and the classical form of the chairs.

The carved details are particularly beautiful, enhanced by a softly whitewashed hand finish that gives the wood an incredible sense of age and depth. Most remarkable, however, are the delicately carved female faces incorporated into the ends of each arm. It is this kind of unexpected detail that makes a piece truly memorable and separates it from the ordinary.

They would be spectacular left exactly as they are, or imagine them reupholstered in rich black lambskin for a much more dramatic, contemporary interpretation.

For collectors, designers, and anyone looking for something genuinely distinctive, this is a very special pair.

Today I’d like to share two very special table mirrors from my collection on 1stDibs .

The first is a beautiful solid brass mirror, featuring a normal reflection on one side and high magnification on the opposing side. It is adjustable up and down for height, making it both elegant and practical. It would be a beautiful addition to a vanity, dressing room, or bedroom.

The second is a wonderful 19th-century George III mirror, crafted from beautifully detailed mahogany.
