Would you believe this is the same living room? 👀

This before and after living room transformation is a great example of why some of the biggest design changes happen beyond the finishes.

Instead of simply updating the furnishings and materials, we rethought the architecture of the space. Vaulting the ceiling and adding wood beams completely changed the scale, character, and feeling of the room.

The best renovations don’t just make a space look different. They change the way it feels to live in it.

What’s the first detail your eye lands on? 👀

For this workplace, we designed two entry lounges across the 5th and 6th floors to feel connected through a shared design language, creating continuity throughout the arrival experience.

Working within the building’s rectilinear, industrial architecture, we introduced curved forms, layered textures, and sculptural lighting to soften the space and create movement.

Every element was selected with longevity in mind, creating a foundation future tenants can make their own.

But back to that first impression: was it the lighting, the curves, or something else entirely?

A good gallery wall should feel collected, not copied.

For this edition of Designer Notes, we're sharing a few principles our design team uses to create gallery walls that feel personal, layered, and intentional:

01. Mix shapes, sizes + unexpected elements
Look beyond framed art. Incorporate objects and pieces you already own and love.

02. Not everything needs a frame
Textiles and textural wall decor can add softness and break up all the hard edges.

03. Play with scale
A tiny Polaroid can become a focal point when paired with an oversized frame and generous mat.

04. Decide how eclectic you want to go
Mixing frames and materials creates a collected look. Repeating frame styles or using a grid creates something cleaner and more modern.

05. Create consistency with your photos
Color, black and white, or neutral. Pick a direction and let that consistency help tie everything together.

Save this for the next time you're staring at a blank wall. And send it to someone who has a gallery wall project they've been meaning to tackle.

When you're working with a sloped wood ceiling, integrating lighting isn't always as straightforward as it sounds. 💡

Rather than relying on drop-down fixtures, Edam shares one of his go-to hacks for incorporating integrated LED lighting directly into the ceiling beams.
