Decorating for Halloween this week?

- Use lights and cords rated for outdoor use
- Plug outdoor decorations into a GFCI-protected outlet
- Don't overload a single outlet or chain too many strands
- Check for frayed wires before you hang anything

Keep the scares on the porch, not in your wiring.

That extension cord running behind the couch for the last two years? It was never meant to be permanent.

Cords used long-term can overheat, get pinched under furniture, or become a trip hazard. If you need an outlet somewhere, let's add one the right way.

Those outlets with TEST and RESET buttons in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and outdoors are GFCIs. They're designed to cut power fast and help prevent shocks.

Manufacturers recommend testing them regularly: press TEST (power should go off), then RESET. If it doesn't trip or won't reset, have it replaced.

Two minutes. Worth it. Questions? Call Anchor Electric at 406-251-3166.

Scorch marks, melted plastic and charred wire are warning signs, not cosmetic problems. These photos come straight from our crew in the field: a receptacle that burned through, and a light pole splice that had been cooking inside the base.

Call an electrician if you notice:
- Outlets or switch plates that feel warm
- A burning or hot plastic smell
- Flickering lights or breakers that keep tripping
- Brown or black discoloration around a cover plate

If you see any of these, shut off that circuit and have it checked before it becomes a fire. Call Anchor Electric at 406-251-3166.
