Chicago, Park City & Beyond Let’s be honest, I am a fanatic about interior design.

The name Blanc & Noir comes from the French words white & black. While everything is not always white and black, it is a good reminder that life is about balance… it’s the only way to live life beautifully. I’m Monique Smith, creator and principal designer of Blanc & Noir Interiors. It all began at an early age growing up in a household full of girls with an eye for style. A top a mother that was

frequently remodeling our home and absolutely fond of tile (to say the least!). We found reasons to dance & celebrate (admittedly, I still do my happy dance after a design achievement!). Beyond my roots, I raised a family while I worked in business running large capital improvement projects for communities. I then began an interior design and floral business. I gained my Interior Design degree at LDS Business College among many additional design education courses. I worked for a design firm in Park City, Utah. With my combined experience, I have been blessed to work with many great clients all over the world for the past 10+ years. To each is a unique and rewarding experience for all. I’ve had the opportunity to speak at trade shows and educate clients about the need for professional design. While my passion for interior design grew from countless hours of design projects (and design fantasy;) my love for travel grew. It’s where I get most of my design inspiration. I find beauty in nature and classical architecture. It’s example is simple, timeless, and balanced. This is why Blanc & Noir was created. My hope is that we can bring you our experience combined with your dreams into reality. To create a timeless personalized lifestyle for you to call your happy place!

A pantry designed to work as beautifully as the kitchen. 🤍

More storage, a prep sink, dishwasher + dedicated space for small appliances, with a backsplash that complements the kitchen without matching it exactly.

A little flashback to this Park City Parade of Homes showcase as this year’s event approaches. ✨

Smart storage makes all the difference.

Capturing design details from La Pedrera - Casa Milà in Barcelona—where you can feel the influence of Antoni Gaudí in the way color, texture, and form move together effortlessly.

POV: stepping into a space where color is already in sync.

Soft pinks and muted greens working together—not competing, but creating a sense of calm through contrast. The marble vanity grounding the space, intricate door details adding quiet character, and a soft blush clawfoot tub that blends seamlessly into the walls.

Across from it, a contrasting green moment—tied together with classic tile that creates continuity rather than division.

And then the subtle layers… simple lighting, a gently textured ceiling with soft wave-like movement, and delicate lace-trimmed linens that add just enough softness.

Nothing feels excessive. Everything feels considered.

The kind of design that feels effortless, but never accidental ✨

If these walls could talk from …

I would tell you about slow mornings by the window,
where light poured in softly and the day began without rush.

The hum of a sewing machine,
fabric draped in delicate folds—
red and white toile, carefully chosen, lovingly used.

I’ve held moments of stillness, of creation,
of quiet beauty in the everyday.

Classic white floors with diamond tile beneath your feet,
timeless, grounding everything in place.

Nothing here was accidental.
Every detail, intentional.

Tell me… what story would you leave behind?

I’ve been feeling so inspired by Mediterranean style. It’s the arches, the materials, the restraint…

Mediterranean design always feels effortless because it lets the architecture lead.

A little texture, a little color—and that’s enough.

Design inspired by travel, creating spaces that feel like a private escape…that’s luxury!

cool girls have cool jobs ✨

mine looks like wandering through spain…finding inspiration in coastal landscapes, stone architecture, local markets, and the raw textures shaped by nature and time

it’s in the details most people pass by
the worn wood, the linen, the imperfect finishes, the way light hits every surface

this is what inspires both my designs and the pieces I curate for my shop—spaces and objects that feel collected, grounded, and quietly luxurious

I travel to bring that feeling back with me
translating global nature into homes that feel elevated, lived-in, and deeply connected

Casa Pedrera is a reminder that architecture should never feel static.
Gaudí designed movement into every curve—stone that feels almost fluid, balconies that breathe, and light that shifts throughout the day.

It’s this kind of intentional imperfection that inspires my work—spaces that feel lived in, layered, and quietly bold.

Design should feel like an experience, not just a look.

The detail in European design is on another level ✨

Walking through spaces like this reminds me how much texture, color, and light can completely transform how a space feels.

Gaudí didn’t just design buildings—he designed experiences.

This is exactly the kind of depth I bring into my client designs, even remotely.

If you’ve been wanting a space that feels layered and intentional… this is your sign.

Walking through Casa Batlló and completely drawn to the tile details ✨

I’ve always loved how Antoni Gaudí designs—there’s this effortless way he brings in light, color, and nature so everything feels fluid and alive. Nothing feels forced or overly perfect, and that’s what makes it so beautiful.

It’s a reminder that the smallest details—like tile—can completely shape how a space feels.

This kind of inspiration is what I carry into every project, especially when designing remotely—finding ways to make a space feel layered, natural, and uniquely yours.
