Help! I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of making translucent porcelain clay from scratch! Bryan Hopkins ( ) generously shared his recipe and I’ve just begun my tests. The video shows how translucent this clay is after it’s been fired to vitrification. I left it unglazed and you can see the color of my skin. There’s also a hint of glossiness from the silica. I’m excited to see how far I can push this.

Skill building and reacquainting my hands with clay after being away from the pottery wheel for many months.

I devoted several hours of wheel throwing just to feel the clay move and practice new techniques I recently learned. The moment something new clicks, it feels like flying without a harness. But repeating it consistently will require more practice. 😅

I’ll wedge this pile of clay once it’s ready, and I can throw with it again.

Pottery tools purchased from during my recent trip to Japan. I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in all the pottery, history, museums, and spending time with fellow ceramicists. There’s so much to learn and never enough time, but I’m grateful for the opportunities to expand my knowledge and build new connections.
