Shibori is a Japanese resist-dyeing technique that creates stunning, one-of-a-kind patterns through folding, binding, and stitching fabric before dyeing. In this two-part workshop, your instructor Katie Furukawa Bonifacio of Old River Design Co. will guide you through the fundamentals of stitched shibori – one of the most meditative and rewarding textile arts you can learn. No sewing machine required!
In Session 1, you’ll learn 3 types of stitched shibori binding techniques and begin preparing your scarves for dyeing. You’ll take your project home to finish your stitching at your own pace, then bring it back ready for dye day.
In Session 2 (held one week later), it’s dye day! You’ll submerge your bound scarves in a fiber-reactive dye bath and experience the magic of the reveal as you unbind your finished pieces.
P.S. - If you're like "damn, I wish I had heard about this earlier"...you need to become an Insider so you get info like this FIRST!!!
