Microplastics are one of those things you do not really notice, but they can be part of everyday life at home.
They are tiny plastic particles and fibres that can shed from synthetic materials like polyester, acrylic and nylon.
In the home, that can mean bedding, blankets, rugs, curtains, carpets, clothes and other soft furnishings.
The tricky part is that these are the things we live closest to. We sleep in them, wash them, fold them, shake them out, wear them and breathe around them every day.
That is why natural fibres are worth thinking about, especially in the bedroom.
Cotton, linen and wool are not just beautiful to sleep in and live with. They are breathable, durable, comfortable, and they do not shed plastic fibres in the same way synthetic fabrics can.
It is not about changing everything at once. It is about making better choices when the time comes to replace something.
Start with the things closest to your skin: sheets, pillowcases, quilt covers, towels, sleepwear and throws.
