One of the biggest things I’ve learnt from working with plants since 2018…

The prettiest plant isn’t always the right plant.

We see gorgeous Fiddle Leaf Figs, Rubber Trees, Birds of Paradise and Ponytail Palms styled in interiors all the time, often in spots they simply wouldn’t love long-term.

And I get it. They’re sculptural. They’re striking. They photograph beautifully.

But plants aren’t just styling objects. They’re living things.

When I’m designing a botanical space, I’m always looking for that sweet spot between what looks incredible and what the environment can actually support.

Because sometimes the plant you had your heart set on is perfect.

Sometimes it just needs a different spot.

And sometimes there’s another plant that will look even better there and genuinely love where it lives.

Beautiful spaces. Living things. Designed with intention.

Come into our world ✨

I’ve been thinking a lot about the difference between a space that asks something of you and one that gives something back.

You know that feeling when you get home, close the door behind you and your whole body finally goes…

ahhhh.

There are so many things that shape that feeling.

The light.
The sound.
The colours and textures around us.
How much visual information we’re taking in.
And our connection to the natural world.

It’s one of the reasons I’m so fascinated by bringing plants indoors.

Research into indoor greenery has explored associations with psychological and physiological stress, relaxation, restoration and aspects of cognition. And some studies suggest that even the act of interacting with plants, watering them, repotting them, tending to something living, can have restorative effects.

Plants aren’t a cure for an overwhelming environment.

But I do think they’re part of a much more interesting conversation about what we ask our homes to do for us.

Not just:

Does this space look beautiful?

But:

How does it feel to live here?

Because home should be somewhere you can finally exhale.

A space that gives something back. 🌿

Maybe the dream isn’t somewhere we’re trying to get to…

Maybe this is the dream - creating, changing, following what lights us up, and having absolutely no idea where it’s all going.

And maybe… that’s the beautiful part ✨

The story behind Rooted In Care…

Little me would never have believed this.

There was definitely a part of me that wondered whether I was old enough, wise enough, or experienced enough to write a book.

What started as a beautiful mentor encouraging me to create a simple, short PDF to share what I knew - slowly became something much bigger.

I started writing.
And 172 pages later, it became a book.

While I was creating Rooted in Care, I had plant lovers and my long-term clients in mind - the people who genuinely wanted to understand their greenery more deeply, care for it with more confidence, and create spaces that felt more alive because of it.

My intention was simple: to help as many people as I could on their plant journey.

This book was shaped by the questions I was constantly being asked, the conversations I was having over the years, and the deeper desire to make plant care feel more approachable, supportive, and woven into everyday life.

And while PCM has continued to evolve, that thread still feels true to me now.

Because beyond the book, and beyond the changing shape of the business, the thread has always been care. Care for nature, for beauty, for atmosphere, and for the way greenery can quietly change how a space feels.

So in many ways, this book exists because of you.

Thank you for your curiosity.
Thank you for your questions.
Thank you for valuing greenery in your space.

I’ve always loved that people who are drawn to plants are often drawn to something deeper too - a connection to nature, to beauty, to feeling, and to a more alive way of living.

Thank you for making the world a little greener, and a whole lot more beautiful đź’š
