As seen in this weekend’s HTSI and jo ellison, Rose explains process of her work at the home of .

“I’m typically quite inspired by colour and the way colours work together and affect other things, so it’s a very interesting challenge for me to bring to life rooms using these very subtle plays, very subtle differences, both in the colours and beautiful objects, beautiful art and sometimes using a strong contrast. There’s definitely strength threaded through.”

Looking at things in relation to others is extremely important to me: how one object / a colour / a piece of furniture can be altered by another, and by treating the space lightly, I found I could let its character speak.

I use the Fireside candle throughout my projects and in the showrooms on Pimlico Road. Inspired by the scent of burning log fires, it brings warmth to a space.

Whenever I can reuse something, I do. In the bathroom, even the fireplace is built from bricks taken from the bedroom wall, excised to make way for a window.

It was an exciting journey, finding a way to let it have a new life.

Axel Einar Hjorth’s 1930s Sportstugemöbler furniture, designed originally for Swedish summer houses, sits perfectly within the Coach House’s jewel-box proportions.

The lack of doors throughout the Coach allows the space to flow.

Our Douglas Fir cabinet stands in as a wardrobe, sitting on top is a Bronze Croisillon Table Lamp by Jean-Michel Frank. The light from this high spotlight catches the piece beneath and the shadow it casts changes the whole corner.

The staircase goes straight into the bedroom. The side cabinet, veneered in burr poplar, is from our own studio. I do like texture to be very strong. I would prefer to have one fabulous piece of furniture rather than walls covered in something highly decorative.

I wanted the stairs to push into the bookshelves where they meet. It saves a little space, and I love the charm of it. The treads are carefully spaced so they flow naturally around and cut into the shelves at key points. It feels like the shelves run through the staircase. Simple, free-flowing handrail, big enough for comfort, light enough for a floating energy. Lights on the shelves bring warmth and interest at night. Rachel Whiteread drawings leaning.
