Colour is central to how I work. The right palette can change how a room feels as powerfully as any structural decision (sometimes more). With our Mayfair apartment, I started with the colours of an Italian gelateria - pistachio, butter yellows, strawberry pinks - colours which felt like the sun was wrapping you in a warm hug. Then came weeks of minute colour calibrations so that it worked perfectly in London’s light. Get the colour right and everything else follows. Do you have a colour that makes a room feel instantly better to you?

My favourite rooms take their cue from what’s outside the window - and for the formal living room of our Surrey Country House, that meant the soft blue of the sky.

You’ve been asking for a long time, and it’s finally here.

We’re launching our own YouTube channel and with it, Design Deconstructed, a series which lifts the lid on our real life projects.

The speed at which we’re all scrolling on Instagram is only getting quicker by the day so that’s why I wanted a space where I could slow down — to uncover the thinking, the decisions, and the process behind each of our projects in a way that the grid simply doesn’t allow.

There’s a stillness to this home that comes from restraint, not absence. We layered neutral tones (rich, not flat) to give our clients’ colour-filled art collection room to breathe, with the flexibility to keep evolving as their collection grows. Pairing back the palette lets texture take centre stage, drawing the eye to finer details like the subtle texture of the polished plaster walls — details that might easily be lost in a more colourful scheme.

The result is a modern home with a sculptural quality, where lighting design, refined natural materials and artwork combine to create a narrative of calm and serenity that goes beyond the purely visual. This house feels like a genuine sanctuary.

I don’t think there’s a single element in our Surrey Country house we agonised over more than the staircase! It sits at the heart of the home, so it had to feel like it belonged there.

It all starts with curves. The apron traces the oval-shaped entryway and sweeps all the way around and down to the floor, and that same organic shape is mimicked in the handrail. It’s exactly the sort of soft, flowing shape that speaks to the Arts and Crafts spirit of the house.

And then the runner. Oh, the runner! We went through more pom samples than I care to admit, all to get this ombré just right. It moves from light to dark and back to light again at the top, a waterfall effect that draws your eye all the way up to the floodlit landing. What are your thoughts on an ombré runner?

I’m constantly torn between my favourite details in this home, but this staircase might just take the top spot.

I love how much technical thinking goes into a cinema room, and how quietly it all sits behind the design.

For our Wimbledon Village Modern Villa’s cinema room, we carefully selected soft fabrics for their acoustic quality. If you’ve ever watched a film in a room with hard walls and wondered why the dialogue never quite settles, this is why. You want the fabric absorbing sound rather than bouncing it back around the room, and you feel the difference the moment you sit down. The speakers are tucked behind those panels too, so there’s nothing on show and nothing to work around. All that softness then doubles up to create a cocooning space, perfect for an evening movie wind down.

Our clients are also passionate art collectors which meant the art in this house was always going to move and evolve. Pinch and look very closely and you’ll see the painting isn’t fixed to the wall at all, it’s suspended from a track on the slimmest black rods. Add track lighting above and you have a solution that offers max flexibility to change or add art without affecting the walling.

And we can’t discuss this cinema room without mentioning the centrepiece sofa. In my opinion, few colours are as good looking on a sofa as a light one, it’s just instantly so fresh and classy! Especially when paired against all that moody blue it keeps a dark room from ever feeling too heavy.

I’ve always believed a bathroom should feel like a sanctuary, so when it came to designing my own, I wanted it to be warm, comfortable and completely clutter-free.

The warmth comes from the wood panelling we ran across the walls, which gives the whole room a cocooned feeling I absolutely love. Behind the mirror, we built in slimline storage that’s around 25cm deep, and to the right of the vanity there’s a generous cupboard, 40cm deep, that swallows all our towels, hairdryers, bath toys and medicines. There’s such a joy in never having to squeeze things in or shuffle bottles about to find what you need!

My favourite part is showing guests the bathroom and watching their faces when they realise quite how much is tucked away in here. To me, that’s always the sign of a job well done!
