A fascinating walk through the Lee Valley water filter beds today as part of teaching at LSBU.
Such an extraordinary landscape — layers of infrastructure, history, ecology and architecture woven together.
A wonderful site for observation and design. Looking forward to seeing how the students respond to it through their projects.

Reimagining a London home | Existing → Proposed

How do you create significantly more space while respecting the character of an existing period home?

Our proposal explores a contemporary transformation that responds differently to the front and rear of the property.

To the street, the intervention is deliberately restrained, working with the proportions, rhythm and material character of the existing terrace.

To the rear, the approach becomes more contemporary. Dark zinc cladding creates a clear distinction between old and new, while carefully considered brickwork connects the new intervention with the original house.

Architectural visualisations are an important part of our design process, allowing our clients to understand the scale, materials and character of a proposal — and to see the potential of their home before it is built.
Swipe to see the existing property and our proposed transformation.

What a wonderful afternoon at Merton Abbey Mills!
A fantastic turnout for the first of our Open House Festival 2026 – The Crafted Environment: Merton Abbey Mills events today.
We started at Studio AVC with a talk exploring more than 800 years of history at Merton Abbey — from the medieval Priory to William Morris, Liberty and the Arts & Crafts movement — and how ideas of craft, material, making and place continue to influence the way we think about design today.
We then headed out through the Mills, finishing at the Merton Priory Chapter House.
It was lovely to see so many people interested in the history, architecture and creative heritage of this extraordinary place. Thank you to everyone who joined us today!
And we’re doing it all again next Saturday:

OPEN HOUSE FESTIVAL 2026 |
THE CRAFTED ENVIRONMENT: MERTON ABBEY MILLS

We’re delighted to be opening the doors of Studio AVC as part of this year’s Open House Festival.

Join us at our studio in the historic 1929 Shop at Merton Abbey Mills for The Crafted Environment — a short talk exploring William Morris, the Arts & Crafts movement, and how its principles of craft, materials and thoughtful design continue to influence our work today.

Following the talk, we’ll take a guided walk through Merton Abbey Mills, exploring the fascinating architectural and industrial heritage of this unique riverside site — from its historic buildings and restored watermills to the pottery, theatre and working studios, finishing at the Merton Priory Chapter House.

Delighted to share that Studio AVC has been shortlisted in two categories at the Wandsworth Business Awards 2026:
• Best Creative Sector Business
• Environmental / Sustainability Champion
As a small independent architecture and interior design practice based in SW London, this recognition means a great deal to us.
At Studio AVC, we believe creativity, sustainability, and community should never exist separately. From adaptive reuse and low-energy homes to community engagement, teaching, and thoughtful placemaking, our work is rooted in the idea that good design can positively shape everyday life.
Thank you to our clients, collaborators, consultants, students, contractors, and local community for continuing.

A well-designed home is one that feels effortless, personal and lasting.

Developers often ask: “Is this site viable?”

Before committing to a purchase, a feasibility study helps test planning constraints, massing options, and development potential.

A few early design studies can reveal opportunities that significantly improve the value of a scheme.

At Studio AVC, we help developers explore the potential of a site before the planning stage.
