Lyme Regis on an early September Sunday evening. I wasn’t likely to trip over a huge vert or half an ichthyosaur with the weather, tide times and weekend hunt but I do love Lyme as I’m always likely to find a little something if I look hard enough.

I don’t know why I need all the brachiopods, but I do… I’ve also taken to picking up more raw labrodite as my eldest has a rock tumbler and I’d like to try them out in there.

I was lucky enough to find a few chunks of bone too, alongside some double sided shells, mussels and gryphaea. One tiny coprolite poo, a marble and some crinoids to finish off made for an eclectic and satisfying haul!

I’m busy prepping for my next event with Blackberry Primitives up at Springkell House | Scottish Wedding Venue in the beautiful lowlands of Scotland.

It has been a Summer of soldering, hammering and stamping custom bangles and making up other sea glass and fossil jewellery whenever I could find a moment. Today marks the end of the holidays - it has felt like a huge juggle this last seven weeks, and next weekend I will down tools and take a moment to breathe.

But this week I’ll be looking forward to meeting new folk and catching up with those who’ve become friends, and from a creative point of view I’m always amazed at the stitching abilities of the talented people who attend!

All the different shapes, sizes and shades of pre-historic fossilised bone.

I always get a buzz from finding them. Learning that certain ridges and dips and curves mean it comes from a rib or a jaw or a shoulder, or that the structure shows it might be plesiosaur rather than ichthyosaur; I build my knowledge with each find.

Fossils will forever fascinate me and there is always something new to discover and learn.

Fossils, sea glass, driftwood, shells. The coast offers up such glorious delights, I can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere else…

A wonderfully rounded handful today, my first decent hunt in weeks and weeks.

It has been so full on this Summer, but I have got a huge chunk of custom work ready for my trip up to Scotland next week. Trying to get it done around parenting the boys has only been able to happen with the help of family and lots of weekends in the shed. The thyroid surgery put the whole schedule out of whack, and I have to remind myself that I might not have it all together but I’m doing alright considering the last few months. Trying to give myself some grace!

I’m thankful for September. I’m ready for some quieter, cooler, cosy months ahead, and I’m readjusting my goals to prioritise myself in the lead up to Christmas. Whether that is learning some new skills, taking a month off from making or even just taking the time to ‘be.’

Here’s a stack of s**t to celebrate my turning 45 today. 💩

I just sent the husband out to buy me some emergency flip flops - the only present I’ll be getting today. That’s because I’m obviously a bit of a s**t myself and no one really likes me. The joy of hitting the back end of your 40s though is that you no longer give a f**k thankfully! 😂

It has been a year I’m not gonna lie, so the best present I could ask for is getting here in reasonable health, and I’ve made it, clinging on to make life an ongoing misery for those around me. You’re welcome folks! 😘

I had a few sprinkles of my old pup Peggy’s ashes left and had made a ring with them previously but it didn’t really work so I made it up into this pebble where it has sat for 4 years. I’m quite sure none of her ashes are actually left in this but it was made with her in mind and she is now a welcome addition to my necklace cluster. 🥰

Feels a little lopsided so think I need one more on the right hand side. I have something in mind!

Are you a fan of a cluster necklace, or do you prefer to let one piece shine? I tend to take this everywhere with me and then I can pick and choose what to add to a necklace depending on what I’m wearing!
