I think beauty has a reputation problem.

Somewhere along the way, caring deeply about how things look, feel, or are made became easy to dismiss as frivolous. As if practicality has substance, but beauty doesn’t.

I don’t believe that.

The spaces we live in affect us. The objects we keep tell stories. Light, proportion, material, art, craftsmanship—all of it shapes how we experience our lives, often before we even have the words for it.

Beauty can’t solve everything. But that doesn’t make it unimportant.

Beauty is not vanity. It is one of the ways we show that life matters.

I wrote more about this on Substack. Beauty Is Not Frivolous — link in bio. xx

I’m most interested in the pieces that make you look twice.

The ones that blur the line between furniture, art and object. Where function is still there, but it isn’t the whole point.

I think we’ve become a little too accustomed to asking whether something is practical, timeless, or “worth it.” All valid questions. But sometimes beauty, curiosity and a little tension are reason enough.

A room needs things that do more than fill it. It needs something that makes you feel something.

Glimpses into our Canyon Pines mountain home 🙌

A mountain home doesn’t have to look like a “mountain home” to still have a strong sense of place.

Here, the landscape and architecture already do so much of that work, so we didn’t feel the need to lean too heavily into traditional mountain design. Instead, we brought in warmth through natural materials, layers of texture, and pieces that feel collected over time—mixed with a few more refined and sculptural moments.

It certainly helps when your clients have an incredible art collection gathered throughout their travels.

It’s that balance I’m always drawn to: mountain roots with a more contemporary sensibility.

We carried that approach through the furniture, art and final styling, always thinking about how each piece worked with the architecture and how the owners would actually live in the home.

Nothing needed to compete with the view. It just needed to feel like it belonged there.

My first love, marble. 💕

Is marble the most durable material?
Nope, it sure isn’t.

As a designer, do I realize that?
Yep, I sure do.

And am I still going to recommend it?
Yep, I sure am.

People worry about stains. They worry about etching, scratches, maintenance, and “protecting” their investment.

All fair things to care about.

But marble has been used and loved for centuries—and its beauty was never dependent on staying perfect.

The wear, the subtle marks, the layers of age—that’s what gives it character. It’s part of the beauty we travel the world to admire.

That beauty has a name: patina.

And patina is something you earn, not something you can manufacture.

A home isn’t meant to stay frozen in time. It should be lived in. It should tell your story and age beautifully alongside you.

So yes, I’m still specifying marble.

Hey guys — I started a Substack.

I’ve been over here trying to get back into the good old SEO and marketing game with website posts and newsletters. But it turns out I’m an emotional and opinionated interior designer, and sometimes I want to write about what I actually want to write about… not just what Google wants me to write about.

So I wrote an essay about taste: where it comes from, why so many of us learn not to trust our own sense of style and what that means for the spaces we create. I’m sure some of that comes from my own childhood, when I pretended I didn’t have taste so I could fit in with all the cool mountain kids.

It was something I wanted to write for me, but maybe it will resonate with someone else too.

More to come. Perhaps I’ll even commit to a monthly cadence this time. Fingers crossed. Real life and client projects always come first. Those people pay for my time, after all. But I’m hoping to share more frequently.

Read Taste Is Felt, Not Learned at the link in my bio.

Do you think taste is something we’re born with or something we develop? Do some people have it and others don’t? What do you think?

Peace, love, chicken grease.

(I heard this in the movie The Pest FOREVER ago, and yeah, it stuck with me. And yes, The Pest was absolutely a movie my brother made me watch.)

I’ve been quiet on here. Like, almost a year quiet. But life has been full, and this summer I married Cole.

So, hello again. I’m Rebecca Rhodes now.

Many of you know me as Becca Wieronski—the name I built this studio under and one I’ll always be proud of. Rhodes feels pretty good, though.

I’ve missed sharing here. There’s a lot I want to show you: the work, the ideas and a few things that have been quietly taking shape behind the scenes.

It feels good to be back.
