Welcome to St Ignatius Townhouse 🤍

For the last few years, there’s been one project quietly running in the background of everything we do at FORMADEUS.

Our own home.

Back in 2020, Carl and I decided it was time to buy a place of our own in Malta. We had only been living here for around six months and thought we’d find something that needed a bit of work, renovate it, and move in relatively quickly.

Then one day Carl went to view a house without me.

A few minutes later, he called and said:

“I found our dream home. Just listen.”

And then he held the phone up.

All I could hear were birds.

No traffic.
No restaurant noise.
No city sounds.

Just birds.

If you know Sliema, you’ll understand why that felt almost impossible. At the time, and still today, we live on the front where life is busy and there’s always something happening outside. Finding a house in the heart of Sliema where the loudest thing you could hear was birds singing felt like a dream.

I rushed over to see it.

My first reaction?

Panic. 😅

All I could see was the amount of work that needed to be done. But Carl was completely convinced. He could already see what the house could become, and slowly his excitement became mine too.

What we thought might be a renovation became something much deeper.

A careful restoration of a 1930 Art Deco townhouse designed by architect Silvio Mercieca, while rebuilding and adapting parts of the house for the life we wanted to create.

The project has included structural works, heritage restoration, carefully removing and restoring original Maltese tiles, countless design decisions, unexpected challenges, lessons in project management, supplier sourcing across Europe, budget surprises and more patience than I ever thought I possessed.

By the time we finally move in, almost six years will have passed since we first bought the house.

Six years.

Sometimes it feels completely crazy.

Sometimes it feels completely worth it.

Over the coming months, I’d love to share more of the journey with you. The good decisions, the bad decisions, the lessons we’ve learned and the process of bringing this beautiful old house back to life.

This is chapter one.

3 years of our studio 🤍

It’s a bit crazy looking back now. So much has happened inside these walls since then. Renovation dust, long workdays, project deadlines, client meetings, creative ideas, lots of coffee, and so many moments we’ll always remember.

This little mix of photos takes us from the very first time we viewed the space, through the renovation, to the studio as it looks today, with lots of precious memories in between.

This studio has given us more than just a place to work. It has brought us closer to amazing people, beautiful projects and so many dreams we once only talked about. 💭

Very thankful for these three years and everything they have taught us 🫶🏽

A little look into our studio these days 💭
Material boards coming together, samples everywhere, coffee always close by.

A new year usually brings that mix of reflection and quiet excitement, and we’re very much in that space right now. Looking ahead, shaping what’s next, and slowly growing the team as we do.

If you’ve been curious about what happens behind the scenes, this is it. Ideas in progress, textures being tested, conversations happening around this table.

More soon 🤍

As the year comes to a close, we’ve found ourselves taking a moment to reflect.
On the projects, the process, the conversations and the trust placed in us throughout the year.

None of what we do would be possible without our clients. Thank you for inviting us into your homes and workspaces, for trusting our ideas and for allowing us to be part of your journey. It’s something we never take for granted.

We still have moments where we pause and pinch ourselves that this is what we get to do for a living 🥹

We’re equally grateful to everyone who’s supported us along the way, from collaborators and suppliers to those who’ve followed our journey, visited the studio or simply sent kind words of encouragement.

These images are small glimpses from our studio, where so much of the thinking, planning and creating happens.

Thank you for being part of this year with us.
We’re looking forward to what’s next.

Amanda, Mikaella & Martha together with our extra support Ida & Dina 🤍

The ladies and gents at Creekside were designed to be fun, bold and a bit unexpected. Curves, colour, tiles and lighting doing their thing without taking themselves too seriously. Proof that even the most practical spaces deserve just as much thought.

Thanks for following along on this project 🤍

Post 11/12. Throughout Creekside, acoustics were just as important as aesthetics. In the lunch area, Baux panels create a tactile backdrop that softens sound and adds depth to the space. Paired with solid oak tables and round pendants from New Works, the result is calm, functional and inviting without trying too hard.

Open workspaces don’t need to feel loud to work hard. At Creekside, we focused on balance. Clear lines, generous spacing, soft acoustics and lighting that supports long days without demanding attention. A space that lets people settle in, focus, and move through the day with ease.

Details from the collaboration hub at our Creekside HQ project, where metal arches sit behind the high tables and subtly shape the lunch and chill area. Matching the colour to the flexible seating in the open office helps keep the space feeling unified and relaxed.
