A little behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring a design project to life. 🎨✨

I recently had the honor of speaking at my alma mater, UNC Charlotte, and walking students through a completed project; from the initial concept and client vision to the design decisions, challenges, and all the details that brought the final space together.

One of my favorite parts of design is showing that the finished room is just the beginning of the story. There’s so much strategy, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration happening behind the scenes.

Being back at UNC Charlotte and sharing what I’ve learned with the next generation of designers was such a full-circle moment. 🤍

To the next generation of designers: keep asking questions, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to develop a point of view that’s uniquely yours.

Ever walk into a room and just... feel something? Like the space itself is telling you a story before anyone says a word.

That’s not luck. That’s not “good taste.” That’s design.

Every color choice, every texture, every piece of furniture placement is intentional. It’s composition. It’s balance. It’s the same eye a painter uses, just applied to a space instead of a canvas.

On the boards today is a colorful client lounge that was designed to make an entrance, and the ceiling is just the beginning. Moody blue walls create the perfect backdrop for whimsical drapery, fuchsia velvet chairs and a bold geometric pattern overhead.

It’s layered, luxurious and playful, proving that a room can embrace fearless color while still feeling beautifully balanced.

Color isn’t the finishing touch. It’s one of the first things I think about when designing a room. 🎨

The right color can completely change how a space feels. It can make a room warmer, happier, more dramatic, more interesting, and most importantly, more like you.

And no, that doesn’t mean painting every wall hot pink. 😂

Color can come through wallpaper, art, furniture, pillows, trim, tile, or one really good unexpected moment.

If you love colorful interiors but have NO idea how to use color without making your home feel like a Pinterest nightmare, that’s where I come in.

Plot twist: you were never a “neutrals only” person. You just hadn’t met your colors yet. 🌈

There’s a whole world between “beige everything” and “rainbow explosion,” and that’s exactly where the magic happens. The right palette doesn’t shout for attention, it just feels like YOU walked into the room.

Energizing. Calming. Playful. Moody. Your home should feel like something, not just look like something off a mood board.
